Krytox™ is a series of oils and greases with outstanding chemical and mechanical properties. They were originally developed for the NASA Apollo mission in the middle of the last century. Since then, products in the Krytox™ series have gained entry into almost all industrial sectors.
Krytox™ oils consist of perfluoropolyether (PFPE), a liquid and very slowly-reacting fluoropolymer. The greases in the Krytox™ series consist of PFPE as base oil and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) as functional thickener. The original manufacturer DuPont® also sold PTFE under the Teflon™ brand name. It is a very thermally stable, dry lubricant with exceptional properties. The PTFE used has not only a thickening effect, it also ensures higher stability and greater reliability due to additional emergency running characteristics.
The high stability and load-bearing capacity of Krytox™ lubricants result from the high chemical conformity of the two basic substances, PFPE and PTFE. The extremely temperature and pressure-stable lubricants work very reliably and effectively over a relatively wide temperature range.
An overview of the main benefits of Krytox™ lubricants:
- Very high temperature stability
- Low volatility
- Long life
- Cost efficiency due to longer maintenance intervals and a lowered lubricant requirement
- Odourless and transparent
- Chemically inert and non-toxic
- Non-flammable and non-combustible
- Resistant to aggressive chemicals and oxygen
